Calyon acted as Mandated Lead Arranger and Coordinating Bookrunner in a USD 530 million project financing on behalf of Egyptian Methanex Methanol Company S.A.E. (EMethanex). The facility will finance the construction of the first methanol plant in Egypt. Calyon was also chosen by Techint, the EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) contractor selected by EMethanex, to issue the retention money bond for the project, for a maximum amount equal to 5% ot the EPC contract price (USD 37 million). EMethanex is a joint venture mainly between oil and gas Egyptian government companies (EGAS, ECHEM, GASCO) and the Canadian company Methanex Corporation, global leader in methanol production and marketing.
