In line with the Group sustainable development policy, Calyon decided to invest in charity work and identified a suitable project to do so, the Yunnan Tengchong Community Development and Biodiversity Conservation project organised by Heifer International. Heifer is a non profit organisation dedicated to ending world hunger by providing animals and training to help impoverished families around the world become self-reliant. This action has been initiated and financed by Calyon Fixed Income Markets Asia ex-Japan. Participating to this 3-year project gives Calyon the opportunity to help many households in Yunnan Tengchong and this shows our long term commitment to China. Calyon is also the Lead Sponsor of the Race to Feed 2007 event in Hong Kong, organised by Heifer International - Hong Kong on October 27th. In all its activities, Calyon strives to observe and apply the Crédit Agricole corporate values of developing long-term relationships with its clients and thus with society as a whole. Such lasting relations are built on a deep commitment to the development of solutions that serve the general interest. Calyon has been in China for more than 100 years dating back 1898 and is one of the oldest foreign banks in that country. As one of the first batch of foreign banks obtaining RMB financing license, Calyon has participated in a number of important infrastructure, finance and investment projects in China, and is looking forward to more cooperation with local partners. Crédit Agricole Group, its parent company started as a cooperative farm credit company in 1894. This donation is somehow a return to the agriculture industry that Crédit Agricole Group grew from. To commemorate this milestone, a signing ceremony/press conference will take place in Beijing on November 13th, 2007.
