		An interview with Edouard Gourdon, business manager within the International Coordination and Risk team of the Real Estate and Hotels Group

Why did you want to integrate Calyon's Structured Finance Department?

After a degree course in a business school (ESSCA) and a specialized course in finance, I first worked in real estate investment in Asia before desiring to join, now almost two years back, the real estate team of a well-known investment bank with a strong international presence: this is one of the main reasons which led me to Calyon's DIH.

Besides its solid establishment on the domestic market, DIH has an extensive international coverage with a dozen dedicated local teams in Europe, Asia, the US and the Middle East. We maintain ongoing contact with our local teams with which we work mainly in English.

What do you do at Real Estate and Hotels Group, on a day to day basis?

Apart from ensuring compliance with the business line's strategy in our international operations our task mainly involves structuring the transactions originated by network units and then submitting them to the several different decision-making committees. We also work closely with the Individual Risks department in this connection.

The many files that we examine each week concern a large variety of assets (offices, stores, hotels, gaming), facilities and parties. This variety largely boosts the interest of the job and calls for a multi skilled approach.

What do you like in your job?

Upon my arrival, the management gave me very valuable guidance. I was rapidly inducted and I was soon given my first files to analyze. Team work furthermore largely contributed to this easy integration.

Working on diversified large scale projects enhances the interest of our tasks. Since real estate is an essential local component, it gives us the opportunity of working in an exciting multicultural environment.

Since structured finance is mainly long term finance, there is the added interest of following up these loans over time.

It is a multi-faceted job which offers motivating future prospects and increases the possibility of foreign postings.
