Structured Finance

1. Shipping Finance

The Shipping Finance team in London covers the ship finance business of Calyon in Europe, North America and South Aftrica. It works closely with the head office in Paris, the regional units in Hong Kong, Pireaus, Oslo and the product lines, to promote innovative solutions tailored to the financial needs in areas such as financing, advisory services and hedging to clients in the Shipping industry.
Particularly:

• medium and long-term mortgage loans (arrangement, underwriting and syndication),
• export financing with ECA supported structures,
• tax lease structures and off-balance sheet financings,
• risk hedging produces: interest rate and currency swaps, foreign exchange lines, bunker cover, FFA
• financial advisory with a particular emphasis on LNG shipping projects,
• project appraisals and agency services,
• direct investment and equity placements,
• cash management.

2. Property Finance

The UK Property & Hotel Finance Team comprises of experienced professionals and provides investors with highly structured financing solutions for both domestic and cross-border transactions. Having secured strong working relationships with many of the well-respected UK property & hotel companies over the last couple of years, the UK team provides financing on a full, limited or non-recourse basis as appropriate.
Financing will be arranged for acquisition, investment and development of office, retail, industrial, hotel and leisure real estate:

• Office/Retail/Industrial investment: prime assets with long leases to strong covenants for high quality sponsors on a non-recourse basis.
• Development: as above with limited recourse to sponsors (e.g. for cost overruns) and minimum pre-lets to provide an appropriate level of interest cover.
• Corporate facilities: facilities arranged on an unsecured basis for investment grade (or equivalent) listed property companies.
• Hotel investment: single asset or portfolios of well located upscale, mid market or budget hotels managed by respected operators.
• Leisure: as part of a wider out of town retail/leisure offering, holiday centers, large resort /destination casinos and other leisure transactions where there is a real estate element.
• Residential: pure residential is not a primary target at present however will be considered where appropriate for existing group clients or as part of a wider mixed – use development.

5. Structured Commodity Finance

Worldwide coverage for this business is provided by the central team based in London. SCF also has representatives in Hong-Kong, Moscow and New York. We are organised in four geographic areas: Africa & Latin America, Asia & Central Asia, Middle East and Russia & Eastern Europe. Despite a clear focus on the energy sector, we are also involved in metals and soft commodities. Products most commonly used are: pre-export financing, pre-payment financing, barter, tolling/processing, swap of commodities.


Acquisition and Leveraged Finance

The Leveraged and Financial Sponsors Group in London has a high quality book and is run as a distinct part of our Leveraged practice locally. Since the creation of Calyon we have improved our capacity to successfully tender for lead roles on large deals in our market.

We also work across discipline and have successfully transacted with Project Finance, Telecoms and Financial Institutions teams.
